Staff at the Nursery

There are seven members of staff on the team each of whom works on different days as shown below. Each child has a ‘key person’. The list is shown on the board in reception. Grayswood Nursery School

Spring Term 2012
First Half Term

Happy New Year to everyone. We hope you have enjoyed a fun Christmas holiday. Thank you to everyone who gave the staff such lovely gifts before Christmas. The staff biscuit tin is looking very healthy so do come and be a Parent Helper so you can help us eat them!

The Nativity Play and event afterwards were great and we raised some very valuable funds for the nursery - £258.00. Added to this Samantha Hayward, Evie’s mummy, has very kindly given a large portion of the money raised from the DVD’s - £175. Thank you everyone who came and supported the nativity and/or purchased the DVD. And thanks especially to Samantha and Dan (the camera man) for producing such a fantastic DVD free of charge.

We are welcoming some new children to nursery this term – Carmen Wolland, Isla Hepburn, Holly Darkin-Cross, Arthur Tough, Hamish Campbell and Chloe Ashby, We look seeing them all and their families.

Topic for this half term
This half term we will be looking at a poem each week helping the children with rhyming and using different vocabulary, creating pictures in their minds etc. Our other activities will be on the same theme as the poem. We will put the poem of the week in reception so you can see what we are doing and maybe enjoy it at home together. Rather than a sound or colour of the week we hope children will bring from home things related to the poem to share at circle time. Let’s see how it goes!

Absence from nursery
Generally speaking most people ensure we know when children are going to be absent from nursery – either by e-mail in advance or by text or telephone on the day. As part of changes relating to Child Protection the nursery now has a responsibility to ensure it knows where a child is if it is not at nursery as expected. Therefore, please can we ask you to let us know if your child is not going to attend nursery whatever the reason. It is not for us to give you permission it is simply to ensure we adhere to the guidelines in place. Although I often check the e-mails in the evening can I ask you to let us know by text/phone rather than e-mail after 6.30pm for the following day. I frequently attend evening trainings and meetings and don’t go back onto my computer until after nursery the next day. We cannot access our e-mail at the nursery as there is no internet availability.

Helper Rota
This term we reintroduce the helper rota in full. Please sign up for your slot this half term, other relatives are very welcome if you are unable to help yourself – we have often had grandmas or grandpas, a couple of aunties and certainly children have brought their nannies with them. It is an occasion for your child to feel a little special and show you around their nursery. If you would particularly like to help with Forest School the sessions take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
Another thing with which we really need help is the washing of the Forest School clothing. If everyone could sign up to take 3 sets one week each half term it would be most helpful. We have spent a lot of money buying the equipment to keep children warm and dry but it does need to be looked after and it is proving too difficult for one person to wash 15 sets over every weekend. It will need a warm (30) wash and then hung to dry – no tumble drying. The kit can go home on Tuesdays or Fridays but needs to be in nursery for Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Comedy Night
This term the Parent Committee are organising a Comedy Night (for adults) on Friday 24 February. Tickets will be available from Tracey Greenholt, Ryder’s mummy and posters are up to give you full details. Do join us and bring your friends as it promises to be a great evening. There are limited tickets available so book early to avoid disappointment!

Allotment
We will continue our regular visits to the allotment this term but children will walk over from nursery as part of their Forest School session. We will not begin our full sessions there until at least the next half term.

A few reminders to make everyone’s life easy………
Please ensure your child comes to nursery with a spare set of clothes (named please) in their bag, a sun-hat, a pair of wellies and, if wet or cold, a coat. Our outside area is accessible most of the time, even in the rain.

The Nursery is not the place for poorly children
. If your child has been sick or had an upset tummy they must remain away from nursery for a minimum of 48 hours. As a general rule, children taking antibiotics should not be at nursery. Please ask us if you are unsure when your child should return to Nursery after an illness.

Please keep us informed of your current contact details particularly mobile numbers. It is essential that whilst your child is at nursery someone is available to collect them in the event of an emergency. Please ensure if you are unavailable someone else is able to be contacted and collect your child.

Children are able to bring an item for the colour table. This should be placed in the box on the table by the entrance ready to be shown at Circle Time. The children are not able to play with their own toys at nursery. Soothers/comforters ie soft toys and muslins may be kept on the staff table where the children can see them for reassurance. Dummies are not allowed in nursery under any circumstances.

Please do not let your children wear jewellery to nursery or bring small toys etc. As a guide children should not bring to nursery items which could fit inside a traditional 35mm film container.
